During my second year of attending Oxnard College I have
enrolled in a math, history, and english class. Although it is only three classes, they each
come with a very heavy work load that I honestly was not expecting when I first
signed up for them. I know that I can do the work, it's just more a matter of
finding the time and having the discipline to do what I have to do in order to stay
on the right track and pass my classes. I would have to say that the biggest
challenge for me is the non-stop writing assignments that my english and
history class gives me, especially when it's an essay.
When I was in high school, I rarely had to compose an essay.
They were probably assigned once or twice a year. During my first year of
college, I was assigned more essays, but still not enough to make me feel
comfortable writing one. I now have at least one essay due just about every
week in this semester. The upside to this heavy workload consisting many
writing assignments is how much my writing is now improving. I definitely have
more confidence in my writing and do not freak out when an essay is being
assigned.
Although all the
practice is doing good for me, it is still overwhelming at times and I do find
myself considering dropping a class every now and then. When those thoughts
come into my mind, I just try to remind myself of how much I've already
accomplished and what a waste it would be to drop a class since I would
eventually need to take it again in order to fill certain requirements
regarding the goals I wish to accomplish. I also think of how fast time seems
to fly by, so if I just stick it through and give it my all, it'll be over
before I know it.
Finding the time to write essays every week is a problem I face myself. I also feel overwhelmed sometimes. You just have to look at your goal and know all the work is worth it.
ReplyDeleteI really like your motivation. I feel the same way too especially with all these essays but I keep in mind it's probably a lot more challenging in the UC's.
ReplyDeleteYour blog summarized exactly how my semester is going. I'm a little freaked out. Atleast I now know im not alone.
ReplyDeleteI feel your agony, I myself am enrolled in Psychology 101, English 101, Environmental Science Resource and Management 100, and Art Appreciation 101. The work load, as you mentioned, is a heavy one. Nevertheless choosing to stick with it and pushing through it all will be rewarding as appose to dropping a class. All the essays are merely polishing-up your writing skills. Keep up the good work, I’m rooting for you!
ReplyDeleteI had the same experience with my History class, except I took it in the summer. Now it's just English class that is leaving me with little time for myself at certain points during the week. However, the constant writing in history class refreshed my memory on how I have always obsessed over essays being good. Now and then, I assume, everyone is probably stalked by the idea of dropping a class, but like you said, it's all about keeping your head in the game and reminding yourself what you hope to one day accomplish after all the hard work.
ReplyDeleteHigh school never prepared me for al these essays either. They keep coming week after week and it's hard to keep up. Despite that, I know you can get through it and get the done, just as long as you don't lose focus!
ReplyDeleteWriting is something that becomes easier the more you do it. Just keep doing your best!! Good luck!!
ReplyDeleteI agree, it's harder than you expect it to be when they expect you to know this already when in reality high school didn't prepare me much for huge essays nonetheless research papers!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you've been doing well at keeping the paste. I know how hard it is to keep up with three classes and outside distraction. Hang in there, you are almost there. Keep up the good work, because your story inspires me as well.
